PROJECT OVERVIEW
Villa Marie Claire is a residential hospice dedicated to providing compassionate end-of-life care. Having previously worked with Holy Name Medical Center to convert the entire building into a hospice facility, this latest renovation builds upon that transformation.
Holy Name Medical Center is committed to nurturing the emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being of its residents through a holistic approach to care that extends beyond clinical treatment. This model of care informs the range of services Villa Marie Claire provides, from dietary planning to equine therapy, while also guiding the vision to renovate the physical environment in which their specialized care is delivered.
Our design reimagines the central core of the building, enhancing the entry experience with new front porches and an elegant lobby. To expand the number of common areas for residents and their families, a chapel was converted into a multi-purpose room on the first floor and a second floor addition above the front lobby created space for a new family room. The second floor also features a back porch with sweeping views of a 6,000 square foot patio and beautifully landscaped grounds. To improve access to this outdoor space, the nearby kitchen was reconfigured to make room for a corridor that leads to the back patio. These updates offer residents a variety of spaces for both quiet reflection and social connection, all within an environment that feels like home.
Recipient of the 2024 Senior Housing News Architecture and Design Award in the Hospice category, this recognition highlights the value of Villa Marie Claire’s thoughtful design. The addition of indoor and outdoor communal spaces not only provides comfort and dignity for residents, but also creates an atmosphere where their loved ones can gather and make lasting memories.
