Walter is a Principal at NK Architects, where he co-directs the Educational Design Sector, with a specific focus over the past 25 years on the development of dynamic environments for learning, ranging from early childhood centers through higher educational academic settings. He has spearheaded numerous master planning assignments, both for educational and healthcare facilities, where he has developed significant expertise in the planning and execution of facilities focusing upon rehabilitation medicine, including centers for spinal cord and traumatic brain injury, and has served as a consultant on the design of such facilities to architectural firms across the country. He enjoys both the creative and analytical aspects of architecture and particularly enjoys working together with clients to find creative solutions to challenging problems.
Walter’s interests include listening to and playing “weird, eclectic” music that most others apparently find intolerable, as well as art and photography. On those rare occasions when he’s not behind his desk, Walter can be found working on and around his historic home, which he’s slowly converting into a romantic architectural ruin. He is TRYING (with limited success) to learn the art of relaxation. He enjoys a good beer, a good laugh, and spending time with his wife, Debbie, and three daughters – Cailey, Emily and Dana.
