Progress at WPU University Hall

We are pleased to share that great progress continues to be made at William Paterson University's University Hall! The exterior cladding is nearly complete, site work that will tie the building to the rest of the campus is underway and various trades are feverishly framing and forming the interior spaces.
The transformational new building, located in the heart of the campus, will be the home for the departments of Nursing, Public Health and Communication Disorders. A state-of-the-art nursing simulation lab will anchor the second floor, providing cutting edge educational space for tomorrow's nurses. Below the main academic floor, a functional Communication Disorders clinic will provide speech-language pathology services to children and adults. In addition to these department-specific learning spaces and their academic offices, sixteen general academic classrooms, including two active-learning and four seminar rooms along with a large common lounge and cafe will make the building a campus hub for all students and staff. This rich cross-section of spaces and inhabitants will help promote the University's greater commitment to sustaining an active and enriching educational culture on campus. To reinforce this mission, the main architectural concepts of the building are themes of transparency, layering and connection. The central organizational element of the building, known within NK as "the spine", consists of a three story space enveloped in glass to allow for daylight and views throughout the core of the project. Programmatic spaces are organized around the spine and visual connections across floors and across multiple levels will help put the various departmental spaces on display to further an understanding of what they do and to foster conversation in the many soft seating, unscheduled lounge and learning spaces throughout the building.
A LEEDTM Gold Building, University Hall will further WPU's commitment to sustainability and will provide a healthy, efficient learning environment with unique spaces such as a planted roof with an outdoor terrace.
William Paterson University anticipates opening the doors of this exciting new facility in the Spring Semester of 2016. We look forward to continuing to update you on its terrific progress!
