Newark Academy Middle School Breaks Ground on New Addition
Newark Academy Middle School broke ground on their new addition on Tuesday, April 12. The expansion follows the successful completion of Newark Academy’s Upper School Academic Center, the initial project of a comprehensive campus master plan.
The proposed two-story facility, which will append the Academy’s McGraw Arts Center (also an NK project), will create a new, dedicated home for the 180+ students attending grades 6 through 8. The facility will physically respond to the level of intellectual engagement practiced at the school, while purposefully enhancing the Middle School’s image and identity.
The aesthetic of the proposed new facility is intended to reflect the longstanding history and tradition of Newark Academy, which was founded during the time of the Revolutionary War, while incorporating forward-looking technologies and sustainable design strategies.
When completed, the new Middle School will combine classrooms, science labs, a large multipurpose common space, and a dedicated Middle School faculty office area. Spaces within are designed to accommodate modest enrollment growth as a means of increasing diversity, expanding extracurricular and athletic offerings, and improving the class schedule, all while maintaining small class sizes.
