NK Presents at NJAPPA Annual Spring Conference
At NJAPPA’s 12th annual spring conference, held April 18 - 20 at the Seaview Hotel in Galloway New Jersey, Daniel Topping led a panel discussion on renovating college buildings. The presentation, “Renovate, Transform, or Knock Down? Considerations for Addressing Aged Buildings and Facility Renewal,” focused on four key issues facility managers should consider before beginning any renovation project:
- What are the key planning decisions that aid in prioritizing, evaluating and enacting campus renewal projects
- How to evaluate the aspects of aged campus buildings that enable repositioning for 21st Century use, and some that hinder proper utilization
- What are the three factors that must be carefully considered to determine when a facility should be renovated
- How to create the building blocks for a successful renovation project
Of particular interest to the audience was that in addition to an architectural perspective, Dan discussed the mechanical and cost implications of a renovation project. Joining Dan on the panel was Dave Pinto, Vice President of RG Vanderweil Engineers and Himanshu Parmar, a Senior Cost Estimator with VJ Associates.
Dan is a Principal at NK Architects and directs the Higher Education studio.
The purpose of the NJAPPA is to promote common interests in the administration, maintenance, operation, planning, and development of physical plants; to foster professional ideals and standards; to better serve the objectives of institutions of Higher Education in the State of New Jersey.
