Brooklyn Hospital ED Wins AIA Newark & Suburban Design Award

The NK Architects-designed renovation and expansion of the Brooklyn Hospital Center emergency department has won a 2022 Merit Award from AIA Newark & Suburban Architects — making it the only institutional project awarded this year.

The ED expansion increases capacity and improves patient and staff experiences at a critical safety-net hospital, by removing barriers between the community and healthcare. Where formerly it greeted patients with a forbidding brick wall, now the ED welcomes the community with a public plaza and expanded entrance lobby, where floor-to-ceiling glass improves the waiting experience with visual connections to the street and abundant daylight.
